CCNP Voice lab rental with INE

Hello again..

I've just spent the last 2 and a half hours using INE's Voice Rack Rental service to get some hands-on time ahead of my 642-437 CVOICE exam.  The exam is scheduled during my trip to Cisco Live, so still a few weeks away yet, but I had the afternoon free for studying at home, and this seemed the best use of the time.

This is the first time i've really used their Voice racks, so it took me a while to get myself setup and comfortable with access to all the kit.  That said, they do provide a great service that automatically loads pre-defined configs at the start of the session, so all the fundamental routing/switching/login-credentials are already in place, which saves a bunch of time over getting a rack of completely blank kit.

As I wanted to work on the CUCME / Gateway setup, I chose to load their initial configs from Module 15 of the Voice Workbook Volume I.  This focuses on Branch 2 (R3) of their Voice topology, which consists of a 2811 Router, a 3550 Switch, and a couple of 7961 phones to play with.

Next post i'll write up a breakdown of the tasks I completed, and plan out some tasks specific for the CVOICE exam ahead of my next rental.

'Til next time..

Been a while... again..., it's been more than 12 months almost TWO YEARS since my last post...

But, a New Year, and a New Year's Resolution means I'm resurrecting the blog!  So look forward to more regular updates, possibly even as regular as they were all the way back in 2010.

A lot has happened in the time since my last post, for a start I have completed my 'CCSP', although not before it changed to CCNP:Security...  So not quite what I was planning back here.  The exams I ended up taking were a mix of one old CCSP (SNRS) and the remainder new CCNP:Security, as below;

  • 642-504 Securing Networks with Routers and Switches (SNRS)
  • 642-617 Deploying Cisco ASA Firewall Features (FIREWALL)
  • 642-647 Deploying Cisco ASA VPN Solutions (VPN)
  • 642-627 Implementing Cisco Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)
In the next post (or two) I'll put a few words around what happened for each of the exams.

Also, i'm now working towards my CCNP:Voice (CCVP as was), with the current goal being to get 3 exams done before the end of March...  *fingers crossed* so expect a few blog-posts on how my revision goes.

Finally, i'll be attending Cisco Live once again this year in London, and may even try to tweet/blog from the event.  We'll see...
